This BBQ sauce recipe is sweetened with natural molasses, and not too much. Great for those watching their sugar intake that still want to enjoy this smoky-sweet condiment!

Ingredients

  • 1 c

    homemade ketchup

  • 1

    packet True Lemon dissolved in 1/2 cup water

  • 1 tbsp

    onion powder

  • 1

    clove garlic, mashed

  • 1/2 c

    apple cider vinegar


  • 2 tbsp

    molasses

  • 1 tbsp

    Worcestershire sauce

  • 1/4 tsp

    allspice

  • 1/4 tsp

    salt

  • 1/4 tsp

    celery seed


  • 1/4 tsp

    cinnamon

  • 2

    (or 3) liquid smoke


  • 2

    (to 3) dashes hot sauce (optional)

Directions

  1. In a large saucepan over medium-high heat, combine all ingredients together and stir well.
  2. Bring to a boil then reduce heat to low. Simmer uncovered for about 15-minutes until thickened.

Recipe Notes

*Feel free to use honey in place of molasses, but it will not give the sauce that traditional dark color.
